Join us for the Alameda Artworks annual Fall Open Studios and benefit for Sacred Heart Community Service. Over 30 artists specializing in oil, water color, acrylic, mixed media, pastel paintings and fiber as well as jewelry, woodwork, photography and music, will open their working studios to the public.

This year, participating artists will donate 10% of their sales to Sacred Heart Community Service, an organization working to ensure that every child and adult is free from poverty.

Join us! Meet and converse with the artists, observe their working artistic processes and enjoy the artwork. All visitors are welcome, including art enthusiasts.

For this Open Studio, over 20 artists specializing in oil, water color, acrylic, mixed media, pastel paintings and fiber as well as jewelry, woodwork, photography and music, will open their working studios to the public. Memorial for Jessica Beerli

We were all so sad to learn about Jessica's tragic death earlier this year. She was a good friend and we will miss her so much. If you would like to join us in celebrating Jessica's life, there will be a memorial art show hosted by Kaleid Gallery in San Jose during the month of April. You can visit the gallery on April 1st, which is also First Friday and the gallery will be open late. Her work will be on display for the month of April.

Our dog "Thea" suddenly became very ill and after an attempt of serious treatment, she was unable to return to a state giving her the quality of life she deserved and required us to help her cross the rainbow bridge and the end of her suffering. She is at peace and she will be missed by Doug and me and many others.

In order for us to pay for her medical bills, I will be selling my present jewelry at cost. I hope you will come, shop and enjoy some refreshments.

The Women of the Alameda Art Works present a call for entries for the Exhibition “Tenacity, Guts & Grace” at the Alameda Artworks from March 26-28, 2010. The exhibition will coincide with SWAN Days (Support Women Artists Now!), a three-day event to encourage the community to recognize and support women artists.

Entries for this year's exhibition “Tenacity, Guts & Grace” will include two parts: a written biography of a woman artist of the past and how this woman artist inspired you to create a work of art. Part two is a two or three dimensional artwork created using this woman artist as an inspiration. Use the checklist below to deliver both parts of the entries to the Alameda Artworks at 1068 The Alameda, San Jose, CA 95126.

ARTIST ENTRY CHECKLIST

Write a short biography of the woman artist who inspired you to create this artwork. How did this artist affect the art community of their time? How do they inspire you? (1 page or less than 300 words, typed in 12pt font, double spaced). Attach essay to the back of this application.

Create an artwork as an homage to the artist profiled above. Two and three dimensional artworks will be accepted. No artwork can exceed 6 feet by 4 feet. Painting, sculpture, kinetic, film and mixed media artwork will all considered.

Artwork must come ready to install . Must have all hanging supplies included.

Include a one page artist resumé and a printed photograph of yourself with this application.

Call for Volunteers

As a volunteer you will be part of an important community art event that will provide inspiration and enlighten all who attend. If you took part in last year’s event, you know what a wonderful experience it was for everyone. Because this is still a young event, SWAN Day is only limited by our imaginations. We welcome and encourage you to once again be a part of an event that promises to be bigger and more exciting. PR, community outreach, art show organizers and venue coordinators are just some of the teams we will need to put in place and your talents in whatever area will be well utilized and appreciated.

Reception

This team will organize the Kick off reception for SWAN Day at Alameda Art Works. This is to be part of the opening of the Alameda Art Show. You will be responsible for all aspects needed to present a creative and professional reception atmosphere. You will be responsible for locating restaurants to sponsor food. Otherwise, you will need to create a menu of food and drink.

Floaters

You will be responsible for wearing many hats. You will move among the various committees as needed. You will also help other venues if required.

Community

This team will be responsible for working with PR to work at a community level, Including local businesses, churches and neighborhoods. You will create a way to inform the community of this event. You will also contact local business associations including Rotory, Elkes and Lyons and present sponsor packets for their sponsorship.

Program Coordinating

This team will be responsible organizing and coordinating independent workshops, speakers and other programs with the various venues as well as locating spaces that can be available for artists use. You will also work closely with the collaboration committee to set up scheduling of these programs.

The Alameda Art Works Fall Open Studio and Benefit for Sacred Heart Community Services was a great success!!

Over 400 people visited the Alameda Art Works during our two day Open Studios Nov 7 and 8.

Our guests looked through the many open studios, viewed the beautiful main hall art show, listened to wonderful live music and munched on great food. Over 30 Artists showed their work. We gave away 18 pieces of art in our free Raffle. And best of all, we donated over $1400, to Sacred Heart Community Services!!!

Holiday Open Studios

Join us for the first annual Holiday Open Studios November 7 and 8, 11-5!
We'll have more then 30 artists participating.
Artists will be donating a portion of all sales to Sacred Heart Community Service, a social services charity that has been serving our community since 1964. Once a municipal auditorium and roller-skating rink, The Alameda Artworks is now one of the largest collections of artist studios in the South Bay. This is a great opportunity to see a large number of artists under one roof. The artists’ work will be on view as well as for sale.

Lucy Liew & Mary Medrano - Figures & Faces Exhibition

We are happy to announce that two paintings of Lucy Liew and of Mary Medrano have been included in a national show called "Figures & Faces" at Pacific Art League in Palo Alto, CA.

The juror, George Rivera, Senior Curator & Executive Director of the Triton Museum of Art, carefully scrutinized almost 400 entries. Only 96 works were selected for the exhibition.

There will be a color catalog of the show available for sale at Pacific Art League.
